Summary: Under direction from the Pharmacist-in-Charge and other
pharmacists in the Specialty Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician I is
primarily responsible for assisting the pharmacist in obtaining all
the necessary information for dispensing and adjudicating a
medication correctly. The Pharmacy Technician I---s main objective
is to answer phone calls and contact the doctors and patients via
fax or phone or other communication means. The Pharmacy Technician
I is also responsible for accurately translating prescription
information and all other information obtained to dispense the
medication into the pharmacy dispensing software. The Pharmacy
Technician I may also be responsible for selecting the medication
to be dispensed, attaching the prescription label to the
medication, and ensuring all prescription information is packaged
with the dispensed medication in advance of a final check by the
pharmacist. The Specialty Pharmacist is accountable for verifying
the prescription and medication in a final check prior to its
shipping. The Pharmacy Technician I may be responsible for
obtaining and verifying patient information including demographics,
allergies, medication history, comorbidities, and payer
information. This position will function with and assist any other
area in the facility as needed with regard to technician type
duties. Job Responsibilities: Responsible for answering the inbound
calls from patients, prescribers, and other healthcare
professionals. Responsible for contacting doctors to obtain
necessary prescription information to properly fill a prescription.
Responsible for managing the queues and working oldest orders
first. Responsible for the correct shipment of the specialty
pharmacy orders. May be responsible for ensuring adequate inventory
of pharmaceuticals in the pharmacy, including ordering, receipt,
verification of orders, and stocking of pharmaceuticals and
supplies. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the
pharmacist lead/upper management. The employee will act in
accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and with the
highest ethical standards that we consistently strive to achieve.
Thus, legal, and ethical compliance is an essential duty of each
employee. May be asked to perform other duties as requested by
Supervisor.? Participate in, adhere to, and support compliance
program objectives. Essential Background Requirements: Education:
High school diploma or GED. Some college preferred. CPhT
certification preferred. Arizona Employees: Must be a registered
pharmacy technician in the State of AZ. Must attain CPhT
certification through PTCB or ExCPT within 3 years of initial
trainee licensure date Experience: Minimum two years pharmacy
support experience or healthcare environment experience preferred.
Key Skills/Competencies: The ability to consistently interact
cooperatively and respectfully with other employees. Demonstrated
working knowledge and proficiency in the principles, procedures and
best practices related to this position. Ability to prioritize and
handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Proficient
interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with all
employee levels. Proficient level of operating general office
equipment to include telephone systems, fax, and copiers. Excellent
written and verbal communication skills. Proficient level of
software proficiency in using PC software to support activities.
Ability to work with confidential material and maintain
confidentiality along with sensitivity to employee---s needs and
data. Proficient attention to detail. Ability to work scheduled
hours, shifts may vary based on department needs. Hours of
operation are 8am to 7pm Monday thru Thursday and 8am to 6pm on
Friday. Physical Demands: Work tasks are performed indoors.
Temperature is moderate and controlled. Must be able to stand and
exert well-paced mobility. Must have the ability to bend, squat and
occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to exert well-paced
ability in limited space. Requires grasping, writing, standing,
sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening,
and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and hearing occur
continuously in the process of communicating with customers and
other employees. Vision occurs continuously with the most common
visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary
equipment. All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and
well-groomed appearance and dress in a manner appropriate in a
professional environment.
