Position Summary:

Under the direction of the PMO Lead/Cloud Migration Architect, and in alignment with UC Irvine and OIT strategic goals, the IT Business Analyst applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of business process issues of moderate to complex scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions Analyzes and documents complex business functions and requirements for the supported business units. Serves as the liaison between business and information technology teams.
Follow industry and organizational standards and processes for eliciting and documenting complex business processes and requirements and translates them into various artifacts including business process diagrams, business requirements, functional requirements, use cases, process documents, and workflow documents, which can be successfully executed upon by operational support or development teams. Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distills underlying true needs from user requests.
Analyzes and identifies impacts of changed requirements or processes. Provides operational support by analyzing system behavior, exceptions or incidents to determine cause and identify options for remediation or workarounds. As needed, queries and analyzes data, and analyzes and reviews program code and record layouts.
Leads and performs the full range of testing activities for in-house developed and third-party systems, applications, integrations and reports. Develops test plans and test cases, schedules, leads and tracks testing by target audience.
Interacts with various levels of the organization in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner. Fosters good relationships with business units. Listens and understands client needs and assists with explaining technology needs.
The IT Business Analyst is responsible for identifying stakeholders, gathering and documenting business requirements, assists in Integration and Acceptance Testing, participates in the implementation, and supports the development of training and implementation material. Also assist in documentation and publication of business processes, process maps, network, workflow, data models, or other types of diagrams and technical artifacts. Additionally, as member of UCI OIT s Project Manager Office (PMO), the candidate will help shape how the PMO serves the campus. This effort includes development of the overall strategy, structure, policies, document templates, and tools that define OIT s project management life cycle.
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education and community service goals of the University. OIT Project Management Office provides leadership and coordination of large cross-functional projects. Also develop and continually enhance project management guidelines and tools and educate project leaders throughout the university on utilizing project management best practices.

Required:

Three to Five years relevant experience with BA/BS in related field, or one to three years relevant experience with MA/MS in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Business Analysis in an IT environment.
Strong ability to facilitating meetings with cross-functional (technical and business users) teams.
Solid understanding of business or technical process changes, implementations, and deployments.
Analytical ability sufficient to understand user requirements and translate them into technical terms to develop quantitative status reports and identify and quantify issues and risks.
Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with a broad range of personnel at all levels across the campus and with varying level of technical knowledge and/or project management concepts. Oral communication and presentation skills sufficient to explain business needs to technical personnel and technical information to business users.
Excellent team player with a proven track record of working across a large distributed enterprise and a highly collaborative environment.
Intermediate to advanced skills in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Visio.
Experience with Quality Assurance, User Testing, and Production Release Management.
Excellent analytical, technical, time management and organizational skills.
Experience working within a formal software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
Thorough knowledge of related areas of IT.
Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture.
In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills.
Demonstrated skills eliciting requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases/scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
Experience working with clients to analyze information needs and functional requirements and developing documents as needed, including: functional requirements (business requirements document), project plans, use cases, process documents, workflow documents, and test plans.
Successfully engages in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Broad knowledge relating to software design.
Thorough knowledge of business processes and procedures.
Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Experience working with SQL for data extraction and data analysis.
Valid California Driver s license.

Desired:

Relevant business analysis certifications (e.g., PBA, IIBA) preferred or the ability to gain a certification.
Knowledge of UC Irvine systems, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of university administrative business processes and system, especially those specific to student information systems, admissions, enrollment, financial aid, student accounts receivable, etc.
Three (3) or more years of experience working as a business systems analyst in support of administrative units in a higher education setting.
Familiarity with Analytics, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing projects.
