Two Full-Time Lecturer Positions
(emphasis on Software Engineering and/or Human-Computer Interaction
The Department of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of
Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California,
Irvine invites applications for two full-time lecturer
The department is highly interdisciplinary with faculty backgrounds
in computer science, design, education, health informatics,
humanities, media arts, organizational studies, psychology, and
software engineering. We seek outstanding colleagues who will
thrive in and add to this environment. Successful applicants will
join a welcoming and supportive community of five teaching-oriented
faculty in the department and a dozen overall in the school.
The primary responsibility is to teach up to seven quarter courses
across our regular B.S. programs, and as needed in our professional
Master programs, with an emphasis on teaching software engineering
and/or human-computer interaction and design. The normal load is
six courses, though that load carries the expectation that
additional time be devoted to curriculum development, service to
the department, and helping disseminate our ideas to the broader

considered a plus. The initial appointment is for one year, though
we expect the successful candidates to be able to build a long-term
career in the department.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or M.S. in a relevant field, though
candidates who hold a B.S. degree and have teaching experience will
be considered. Applicants should exhibit a compelling teaching
portfolio, as well as a clear vision for teaching to a diverse
audience at the university level.

evaluations and/or other evidence of effective teaching, a teaching
statement, and three letters of recommendation. A separate
statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to

The academic year begins in late September and ends mid-June. The
pay period for a full-time lecturer appointment is from July 1
through June 30 (a nine-month service period paid out over 12
