Job Description:

Overview

The Technical Designer manages the technical aspects of apparel categories (Knits, FR workwear and regular workwear) from initial design development protos to final approval. They lead fit sessions in collaboration with other Business Partners to ensure the technical, functional, and physical fit are appropriately executed to achieve the Company's design aesthetic. They identify potential production, quality and costing challenges that may arise and make recommendations. They effectively communicate to business partners and factories on all development updates to facilitate the results required.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and maintain company block patterns for existing lines that will ensure fit consistency for garments. Heavily responsible for tracking core body measurements and providing grade rule approval on all products within their product category.
  • Ensures the overall execution of fit, grading and construction of products that while maintaining optimum quality from initial prototype development through production approval for all products that have a heavy weight on Company's overhead
  • Cross-examine sample against style Tech Pack and against the previous fit samples to ensure previous requested corrections and design intent are executed.
  • Engineer clothing that adheres to customers fit standards and furthers the mission of our brands. They are responsible for creating great fitting garments and having constancy season after season, which in turn drives sales and will keep customers returning. Any ill-fitting garments can have a negative financial implication to Boot barn.
  • Communicates and relays all fit correction to overseas partners and factory within the corporate calendar timelines. Any delays in communicating comments can affect production timeline and our ability to deliver products which will have a negative financial implication to Boot barn.
  • Collaborate with Design in initial stages of tech pack development. During hand off, the tech designer is responsible to review and approve the detailed construction and technical sketches within the tech pack as well as create the initial measurement for each garment for send out
  • Lead fit sessions on live models with cross-functional teams ensuring size, fit consistency & balance of the garment has been executed to achieve the design aesthetic. Take clear and detailed notes and photos during fittings; ability to articulate the fit issues to various stakeholders. Ultimately responsible to Approve all fit within your product category prior to production.
  • Takes initiative on each garment to continually improve quality of fit / construction and recommend, establish and implement improvements that affect quality and cost which will in turn driving sales due to great fit and consistency.
  • Oversea and clearly communicate processes, procedures, and technical skills to help guide the Assistant/Associate Technical designers as needed

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of Technical Design experience with exposure to multiple categories and classifications.
  • Fashion Design or related degree
  • Production Tech Pack experience
  • Ability to accurately execute garment fit issues into 2 D Pattern Corrections
  • Strong knowledge in applying grade rules to retain established fit, function, styling and sewing ability across a wide range of sizes and genders
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information via emails, phone calls & face to face meetings
  • Experience developing multiple product lines
  • Thorough understanding of product engineering and manufacturing process both domestically and overseas
  • Extensive computer experience including Microsoft and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and develop new skills
