The Sr. Engineer - Vehicle Dynamics & Controls is responsible for supporting the algorithm development, calibration, and validation of the Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) for better handling and improved vehicle stability while achieving the highest rating for Functional Safety.

Responsibilities

* Leading software-related Functional Safety (ISO 26262) software design, documentation, verification, and validation efforts for Hybrid Control Unit and Hybrid Propulsion System. * Leading Torque Vectoring (TV) development, simulation, and testing (Model-in-the Loop and in-vehicle) for different powertrain architectures. This includes TV for RWD twin-motor powertrain, AWD dual-motor powertrain, and AWD quad-motor powertrain. * Working with electronic brake controls team to develop traction controls algorithms with improved performance and efficiency. * Developing estimators (e.g., tire-road friction estimator) to refine the control algorithms to enhance vehicle dynamics. * Implementing algorithms using Auto-Code generation tools (e.g. Real-Time Workshop - Embedded Coder, dSPACE TargetLink) following software development guidelines and functional safety standard. * Testing the HCU software with static analysis, model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop tests. * Coordinating with cross-functional teams to define the architecture of the powertrain and accordingly developing software to implement HCU communications with other ECUs and manage the vehicle power moding. * Developing software to handle the HCU diagnostics and also manage and report the vehicle diagnostics. * Creating and maintaining documentation for the HCU software development and testing. * Using engineering tools to diagnose HCU software/hardware/integration issues and finding engineering solutions. * Supporting the calibrartion of the HCU control algorithms to follow program requirements for powertrain performance, efficiency, and emissions. * Supporting powertrain integration and vehicle testing. * Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

* Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * 5 or more years of demonstrated hands-on experience with control systems implementation and vehicle dynamics. * Knowledge of Functional safety ISO26262. * Knowledge of classic and modern control theory (e.g., PID tuning, Adaptive Control, Robust Control, LQR, Model-Predictive Control) * Demonstrated understanding of vehicle development and system integration process. * Model-Based Control Design and Software development process. * Experienced in control algorithm design using MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow. * Basic experience/knowledge of using RTW Embedded Code/dSPACE TargetLink for Auto-code generation. * Experienced in structured analysis and design in software development. * Basic knowledge of software safety/FMEA experience including fault tree analysis and hazard analysis. * Basic knowledge of Electric, Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. * Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required):

* PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree with a focus on Controls and/or Vehicle Dynamics. * Hybrid vehicle/powertrain control systems algorithm and software development with a major OEM or tier-1 supplier on production intent development programs. * Basic understanding of Power Electronics Inverter, DC-DC Converters, and Chargers. * Basic understanding of energy storage systems (HV battery) and its controls. * Powertrain system knowledge including engine, motor, battery, and brake control. * Control system calibration tool experience (Etas INCA, ATI Vision, etc.). * CAN communication tools experience (e.g., Vector CANalyzer, Kvaser). * Vehicle development and system integration.

Character traits and related responsibility:

* Works with all levels of management, communicates directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required. * Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans. * Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments. * Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus, move the program forward, and develop win-win situations.
