Job Description:
Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is
composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In
April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber
manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a
prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi
Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we
re-branded to MCCFC. Since our merge, we have made multiple
acquisitions within the United States. In addition to these
acquisitions, we have continued to improve and expand our current
facility's capabilities. We are a company with a dedicated focus on
responsiveness, quality, and customer support, we are working hard
to match the growing global and domestic demand for these advanced
materials.Job PurposeEnsures that an--effective Environmental,
Health, and Safety compliance program, is maintained and,
administered to continued compliance with Health, Safety and
Environmental regulation/requirements. Performs essential functions
to assist with compliance and third-party audits by (local, state &
Federal) govt. agencies, insurance carriers, etc., including
development and maintaining safety improvement metrics. Perform Job
Safety Analyses (JSA), supports the regulatory & environmental
compliance in EH&S meet company and govt. agency requirements
and mitigate/eliminate risks. Performs inspections and
investigations while maintaining employee medical privacy to the
extent required under HIPPA laws, helps to determine corrective
actions arising from accident/incident investigations. Participates
in audits and revises documentation related to overall EH&S
requirements, (as related to production activities), Quality
Management System. Prepares monthly reports for management
meetings.Principal AccountabilitiesThe EH&S Coordinator helps
to plan, organize, and direct Environmental, Health and Safety
activities to meet regulatory and company objectives for overall
Environmental, Health and Safety compliance. Candidate ensures
proper safety regulations and proper PPE is identified for use by
employees to reduce exposure so that workers are protected from any
chronic or acute effects of materials used in manufacturing
operations, and that industrial controls continue to be effective
against regulatory requirements. Uses FMEA to assess risk(s) in the
plant to continually mitigate and reduce risk in all operations.
Develops drafts of procedures within the limits of established
policy guidelines.* Assist with the investigation of incidents to
establish root cause and develop required action plans with
relevant processes.* Assist with risk assessments as required and
follow up control measures to completion.* Advise employees and
managers on company procedures and legal requirements within the
level of a Coordinators knowledge.* Updates internal
reports/records/work instructions with regards to incidents, near
misses and accidents. As well as, compliance of existing and new
products against domestic regulatory requirements and international
regulation(s), (such as GHS, REACH, RoHS, etc.).* Supports the
EH&S department to establish best practices and methods within
the plant to ensure JSA/5S objectives are maintained in equipment
installations and process development, ergonomics, evaluation of
new raw materials, etc.* Carry out EHS training, onboarding
sessions for managers and employees as required.* Assist with the
coordination of industrial hygiene/ergonomics evaluations to ensure
engineering controls are effective and new materials are properly
evaluated against new or changing regulatory requirements.*
Performs daily walks around the plant to identify, evaluate and
communicate safety hazards/risks that can be identified. (I.e.
chemical, electrical, mechanical, heat, cold, etc.).* Attend
educational workshops, seminars/webinars and review professional
publications* Be involved in undertaking action plans and strategic
goals to ensure continuing compliance with environmental, health,
and safety.* Coordinate with other departments the contractors'
training on EHS rules applied for the scope of the projects.*
Support other departments on EH&S topics and participate in
different projects assigned by management.* Support on the
preparation and revise the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) / GHS labels of
finish goods and intermediate products and review the shipment of
hazardous waste for compliance as needed.* Be part of the emergency
response team for any emergency like; spills, exotherms, first aid,
etc.* Follows safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working
environment, utilizing continuous JSA (Job Safety Analysis) and
other risk-management strategies to minimize risk from injury,
repetitive motion or poor ergonomics.Knowledge / Skills /
Experience* Recommended is 3 to 5 years related experience and/or
training in Industrial and/or Manufacturing.* Must have previous
experience in building progressive safety culture within all levels
of a manufacturing environment, including promoting safety
awareness, maintaining and improving policies, written programs and
procedures.* Experience with governmental reporting, environmental
permitting and hazardous waste operations.Education/ExperienceA
four-year college degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management,
Environmental Science, and Industrial, Manufacturing, Industrial
