As a Lean Leader you will be coaching, mentoring, and collaborating with employees to be relentless Lean problem solvers as well as facilitating medium to large sized projects. Utilizing knowledge of the eight wastes, the Lean Leader assesses areas of opportunity for reducing waste, facilitates medium to large size projects, and drives their successful implementation. The Lean Leader will help establish appropriate controls, metrics and monitoring processes to quantify the benefits of the improvements and ensure that the improvements are sustainable. The ideal person for this position is currently applying lean concepts and tools daily over the last 4-5 years of Lean coaching experience. This Operational Excellence Lean Leader position is located in our Irvine, CA Reference Lab partnering full time with lab leadership to develop a lean culture and improve productivity. As most Reference Lab work is done on 3rd shift, the Lean Leader must be willing and able to work nights and be flexible to cover various shifts depending on priorities. In addition, the Lean Leader can expect to travel about 25% throughout the year to support other smaller labs and attend quarterly team meetings. In this role you will * Coach and train leaders and front-line employees to develop a Lean culture of continuous improvement, respect for individual, discipline to standards, intolerance of waste, and reflection * Facilitate Rapid Improvement Events to improve flow through the value stream delivering significant quantifiable operational improvement throughout the lab. * Partner with leadership and staff to assess current processes and identify process improvement opportunities. * Help quantify potential and actual benefits in terms of quality, delivery, and cost. What you will need to succeed * A Bachelor of Administration or Science degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Be a strategic change agent who has helped transform an organization's culture and infused Lean methodologies across functions. * Advanced training in coaching, change management, flow, and/or problem solving * Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally leading or facilitating Value Stream Assessments and Rapid Improvement Events * Demonstrated ability to map out and execute a strategic plan for leaning out a functional area with a prioritized sequence of necessary projects and target area and in context of resource utilization * Demonstrated ability to lead or facilitate multiple medium to large size projects at one time * Experience teaching Lean thinking to practitioners and leaders * Understanding and experience with standard Lean tools such as: * Value stream mapping, spaghetti maps and process mapping * Kanbans, supermarkets and point of use materials * Ohno circles and Gemba walks * Work center layouts, cross-training methods, batch reduction, single piece flow and demand pull * Cycle time, queue time and takt time calculations and applications * Identifying waste, error-proofing, standard work, visual management and 5S * Demonstrated ability to use quantifiable data to deliver improvements in quality, productivity, capacity, and delivery * Results and action-oriented; organized; ability to deal with ambiguity; and good problem-solving skills. * Ability to work as a team player with enthusiasm. * Ability to talk candidly and openly to affect and influence front line personnel. * Willingness to travel. * Skilled with Microsoft Office suite specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word.
