What we do:

The Head of Vehicle Management System (VMS) is responsible for the oversight and definition of key capabilities and performance requirements for the team and oversees and runs the design and development through certification and fielding of multiple aircraft systems. The VMS team consists of the Flight Control System group (including actuation), avionics (including sensors, displays, and data links), utility systems (such as landing gear and environmental control), as well as wiring and equipment environmental qualification. This position will own flight critical system design for aircraft control; architecture design with optimized redundancy levels; trade studies; specification of hardware elements and technical support to procurement; vehicle management software specification and oversight; fault management design; lab testing of flight hardware & software; on-aircraft testing; support to vehicle flight testing; and anomaly resolution among other responsibilities. This role will work closely with team members including engineers (mechanical, systems, hardware, software, controls, etc.), system architects, vendors & partners to ensure conformance to industry and company regulations, as well as appropriate system cost and performance.

What you can do:

  • Design and implement a VMS strategy for current and future development projects based on the company's overall objectives and resources
  • Lead team development projects by setting requirements, goals, and timelines
  • Define key capabilities and performance requirements for all VMS teams
  • Recommend system implementation and verification approach to meet operational concepts
  • Review and approve system architectures and interfaces
  • Provide technical guidance and manage coordination and integration among VMS teams and systems
  • Define design and technology maturity constraints of the system and lead technology maturation as needed
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners and suppliers
  • Lead technical selection and management of suppliers for multiple major systems
  • Lead coordination and integration between VMS and other systems and teams
  • Prepare and manage the department's budget
  • Hire, train, lead, and mentor the department engineers
  • Implement innovative department technologies
  • Review and update company policies
  • Ensure department compliance with company and industry policies and regulations
  • Present updates to customers both internally and externally
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer and the CTO office What you can contribute:
    • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Control Systems, or related degree
    • A minimum of 20 years of hands-on development experience in the areas of Flight Controls, Avionics, Actuation, Wiring, and/or Utility Systems (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
    • Experience with Fly-By-Wire flight control systems
    • Experience with design, development and certification of flight critical systems
    • Prior experience with autonomous systems
    • Prior work with or as a Tier 1 supplier
    • Work experience in a similar senior-level position at an engineering department
    • Knowledge of civil certification standards and related means of compliance (ARP-4754, 4761, DO-178, 254, 311, 330 etc.)
    • Experience developing systems, hardware, and software to high criticality levels (DAL-A/B)
    • History of working in complete lifecycle of rotorcraft and fixed-wing civil certification programs
    • Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools
    • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Strong project management and organizational skills
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
    • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality
    • Ability to approach leadership with a strategic mind

        The pay range for this position is:
        $254,800 $407,680 USD
