Position Summary The Director of pharmacy Serves as the senior leader responsible for all operational, clinical and administrative services of the pharmacy programs at Orange County locations. Provides vision, leadership and oversight of the medication use process to ensure safety, quality and efficiency in all OC locations which includes investigational products as well as FDA approved pharmaceuticals. Within all areas, provides leadership and oversight to ensure optimal provider and patient service and compliance with legal, regulatory and quality standards. Serves as a member of the senior clinical operations leadership team for OC as well as a member of the City of Hope pharmacy leadership group. The OC director of pharmacy is the Pharmacist-in-Charge. Specific responsibilities include human resource management, strategic planning, financial administration, patient safety and regulatory compliance (CPDH, DEA, TJC, CMS, BOP, and others) for all areas of responsibility. Develops and mentors direct reports. Provides strategic vision and leadership to ensure that all medication procurement, storage, inventory, labeling, dispensing, administration and disposal process are per regulatory requirements and in alignment with pharmacy enterprise wide practices and policies. Oversees investigational drug program including Phase 2 through Phase 4 trials. Key Responsibilities include:

  • Operations Administration: Develop and monitors annual budget and addresses shortfalls in financial performance. Continually seeks opportunities to improve operations. Oversees facilities related initiatives. Strategically plans and provides leadership to ensure that all programs provide the most efficient and optimal delivery of care. Recommends and participates in new program development in alignment with COH pharmacy enterprise wide strategic goals and initiatives
  • Medication Delivery Process Administration: Leads and provides oversight of the design and operation of the entire medication use process to ensure safety and efficiency. This includes complex patient research protocols (Phase II-IV Trials) including storage requirements.
  • Human Resource Administration: Leads, motivates, mentors and develops education for management team to ensure program growth and to meet strategic visions and goals. Recruits, hires, evaluates and disciplines direct reports. Justifies staffing model and ensures levels of staffing which meet safety and patient care requirements.
  • Quality and Patient Safety Administration: Provides leadership and oversight of quality initiatives to ensure that targets are met or exceeded through effective planning, oversight and process improvement. Routinely reports on programs and quality initiatives. Ensue proper follow up on n identified and/or known safety and/or quality issues and ensure timely resolution. Establishes, monitors and takes corrective action to address key performance indicators. Ensures ongoing compliance with The Joint Commission, Board of pharmacy and all other external and internal regulatory requirements.
  • Provider Relations: Works with senior faculty leaders to ensure programs are strategically developed and aligned with medical staff needs and pharmacy enterprise wide goals and initiatives.
    -- Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Requirements Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
    • Must have be a Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D)
    • Must have at least Seven (7) years of progressively responsible healthcare administration experience
    • Must have at least Five (5) years of experience in a leadership position Preferred education experience and skills:
      • Previous Academic cancer center or NCI designed cancer center
      • Knowledge and understanding of Title 22, GMP, CDPH, CMS, DEA, California state board of pharmacy, HIPPA, USP, California Pharmacy Law, provider regulations and Joint Commission standards.
      • Knowledge and understanding of human subjects research which includes the entire IRB application process, legal requirements and oversight (OHRP, FDA, and others) and auditing/reporting results. Experience in 340 B program.
      • Quantitative skills for statistical analysis and budget assessment.
      • Ability to use Epic and all relevant pharmacy software.
      • Personal Computer and remote devices approximately 50% of time.
      • Atmosphere and environment associated with patient care areas

      • Typical office environment and pharmacy setting
      • Occasional exposure to inpatient, ambulatory and procedural settings.
      • Work is primarily performed in an office setting with frequent interruptions. Frequent meetings and walking to meeting sites required.
