Position Summary:

The HR enterprise is comprised of three unique business units: medical center, health sciences, and main campus. The Partnership serves as a strategic center responsible for planning and implementing strategic initiatives across the entire UCI HR enterprise. Members of the Partnership work in close collaboration with all three business units to leverage expertise across the enterprise.

As a member of the UCI HR Partnership for Strategy and Innovation (Partnership), the Senior Director, Enterprise Workforce Relations is responsible for providing vision, leadership, planning, project coordination, and strategic direction and guidance to the following functions: employee relations, labor relations, investigations, and policy and procedures, while fostering a culture that promotes a stable and productive relationship between UCI, its employees and unions.

This position establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate consultants. Responsible for managing, preparing, and administering workforce (labor and employee relations) resources across three unique HR business units: medical center, heatlh sciences and main campus. Reviews and approves recommendations for workforce (labor and employee relations) programs that have impact on all three business units. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and also has organization-wide effect. Under general direction of the chief of human resources, represents organization at systemwide labor relations negotiations. Responsible for making decisions that have significant effect to the organizational operations and that are legally enforceable. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules. May respressent the Associate Chancellor/Chief HR Executive at local, regional and systemwide meetings and serve as the delegated back-up for approval and other actions.

Required:

Ten years of progressively broad and functionally diverse HR experience

Five years experience as an HR Manager or Director

Experience with public sector collective bargaining. Knowledge of HEERA, PERB, NLRB, labor and employment laws

Bachelor s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.

Ability to develop strategic, innovative, and mutually beneficial recommendations and solutions that align with strategic organizational objectives.

Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships including: collaboration, negotiating, influencing, consensus building and conflict management to interact effectively with executives, administrators, faculty, staff, and members of the public from a wide range of functional areas, backgrounds, and organizational levels.

Demonstrated coaching and consultative skills with all levels of staff, including senior leadership.

Demonstrated expertise in assessing organizational trends and implementing solutions.

Mastery in oral communication to make group presentations, facilitate meetings, persuade and gain acceptance of decisions, advise others, and motivate broad and diverse audiences.

Demonstrated writing skills to produce effective communications, documents, proposals, and reports adjusting to target audience level and needs.

Ability to prioritize responsibilities using strong organizational and project management skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects with diverse groups. Ability to effectively lead work groups, maintain focus of objectives, and successfully deliver results

Preferred:

Master s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field desired

Current PHR, SPHR, SHRM-C or SHRM-SCP Certification

Professional experience working in a higher education institution
