What we do:
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing aircraft interior components. The role will create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in Catia V6 3DX and assist in the certification of various interior components. This role is involved in the building of prototype and flight test aircraft as well as incubating technology that will be transitioned to the operations/production team. The role incorporates design for manufacturing from the beginning and ensures a smooth transition into production with the operations team. The Engineer collaborates with all technical development teams, including systems, interiors, flight technology, and airframe.
This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.
What you can do:


  • Design (cosmetic composite interior) panel structures, injection moldings, dividers, interior furniture, and mechanisms such as hinges, latches, slides, cams, and linkages
  • Gather, derive, and develop project design requirements and document requirements in DOORS
  • Develop technologies, requirements and specifications for composite materials and process and transition them into production
  • Understand corrosion in and between metallic and composite components and best practices for plating and corrosion prevention
  • Work with structural analysis team to verify capabilities of structure before fabrication
  • Identify process deficiencies and develop solutions to improve those deficiencies
  • Prepare and author various manuals / templates such as design standard and best practices, procedures, and processes
  • Create 3D models of design details per design best practices using Catia and prepare manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 standards using GD&T in Catia
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and prepare project reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Maintain relationships with key material and component vendors and provide technical support as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety / regulatory standards
  • May require up to 25% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned

    What you can contribute:

    • Bachelor's degree in a mechanical or aerospace engineering required
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing and delivering interiors for large commercial aircraft and experience in interior composite structures (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
    • Expert knowledge using Catia V5 (10,000 hours of experience) and Catia V6 (6,000 hours of experience) as well as advanced surfacing
    • Experience designing composite interior panels, components and assemblies for commercial aircraft including sidewall, furniture, floor and ceiling closeout panels, composite monuments, privacy/class dividers, cable raceways and mechanisms for interior doors, stow bins, cabinets, etc
    • Experience designing injection molded, vacuum formed, CNC machined aluminum and 3D printed structural composite part
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
    • Analytical thinking and ability to make well-reasoned decisions
