What we do:
The Sr. Electric Motor Engineer is responsible for hardware development for the electric motors. This position will work closely with Battery Research & Technology, Vehicle Management Systems, Manufacturing, Quality, and Test & Evaluation teams.
This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.
What you can do:


  • Lead design and development of the electromagnetic components of the electric motor. This includes, but is not limited to, defining motor topology, control interfaces, and circuitry
  • Assess development risks and coordinate mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate all electric motor technology maturation activities in order to achieve aircraft certification and entry into service
  • Lead analysis efforts to include: motor performance, thermal, electromagnetic and mechanical stress, and dynamics/vibrations
  • Derive system level requirements and specifications based on vehicle Key Performance Parameter (KPPs) and requirements
  • Define and mature mechanical, electrical, and communication and collaborate with aircraft systems that include airframe, wiring, transmissions, and vehicle management systems
  • Collaborate with suppliers/partners on technical development topics to ensure program achievements are achieved
  • Work with flight test engineers to define instrumentation requirements and interfaces
  • Collaborate with motor control team and system architecture and safety team to develop motor control validation and verification plans
  • May require up to 10% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned

    What you can contribute:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering
    • A minimum of five (5) years of industry experience in electric motor machine development (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage schedule, budget, suppliers, and product development efforts
    • Knowledgeable in electromagnetic topologies
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
    • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality
    • Proficiency with Simulink or other multi-physics simulation tools
    • Advanced knowledge of power electronics products for EV powertrain: AC/DC converters, battery chargers, inverters, EMI filters, high voltage power distribution and others
    • Advanced understanding of EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) standards
    • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering protocols and standards
    • Advanced knowledge of DVP&R and DFMEA

      You may also be able to contribute:

      • Experience with full life-cycle of electric motor development, qualification, production and product support preferred
      • Experience with motor control hardware and/or software development preferred
      • Experience with 500-1200 VDC systems is preferred
      • Experience working in aviation industry is preferred
      • Experience working with regulatory agencies is preferred
