Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. What we do:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing design solutions that support the overall long-term goals of the product. Creating standard processes and procedures within the field while working with the design team throughout the conceptual, preliminary, and detail design. The role is heavily involved in the building of prototype and flight test aircraft as well as incubating technology. The role works closely with all technical development teams, including systems, interiors, flight technology, and airframe.
What you can do:

  • Use creativity and engineering principals towards the design of a mechanical structure, mechanism and/or system
  • Design mechanical / structural systems and products based on a set of given and derived requirements
  • Work directly with System engineering to collect and understand the project design requirements
  • Develop technology and transition it to production
  • Experience crafting CNC Machining, injection molding, vacuum formed plastic, sheet metal stampings, castings, forgings, and composite components
  • Modify designs based on cost, weight and manufacturing targets and capabilities
  • Work with structural analysis team to verify capabilities of structure before fabrication
  • Hold design reviews and presentations
  • Participate and provide guidance in design reviews/brainstorming sessions
  • Identify process deficiencies and develop solutions for improvement
  • Prepare and author various manuals / templates such as design standards, procedures, and processes
  • Assure system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Provide solutions to manufacturing and assembly issues
  • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Create 3D models of design details using Catia
  • Prepare manufacturing drawings using GD&T for manufacturability and repeatability in Catia
  • Creation and maintenance of a Bill of Materials for one or more projects
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop an accurate accounting of all engineering hours required for various types of internal projects
  • Manage relationships with key material and component vendors
  • Provide technical support to vendors and manufacturing teams
  • Ensure compliance with safety / regulatory standards

    What you can contribute:

    • B.S. in a relevant engineering field
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical design experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
    • Extensive experience in aircraft or automotive interior design (i.e. seats, consoles, sidewall, floor, etc.) and production
    • Experience with project management, development programs, and prototyping
    • LEAN/Six Sigma experience and qualifications
    • Expert knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Standards and Catia
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication
    • Highly collaborative and works well both independently and with a team
    • Internal and external customer focus
    • Ability to solve complex mechanical design problems
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
    • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality
    • Proficiency with Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, MS Office Suite

      You may also be able to contribute:

      • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Solid Works
      • Leadership experience
