Purpose:BayWa r.e. Solar Projects, LLC is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Engineering team.
The Project Engineer will design and engineer utility PV plants with a special focus on utility scale solar projects while providing due diligence engineering review, statement, and technical feasibility. The Project Engineer will also coordinate and manage internal and third-party design, consulting and independent engineering resources during pre-acquisition leading technical diligence. This role will lead project preliminary design, technical evaluation of equipment selection, full permitting of asset, and provide project technical support throughout the development, construction, and operational phases.
This position is in Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities we will trust you with:Success in this role involves:

  • Providing design support for project level PV engineering.
  • Coordinating third-party civil, structural, electrical engineering resources creating and managing project engineering forecasts and schedules of deliverables.
  • Reviewing EPC contracts, PPAs, IAs, CUPs (or equivalent) terms and conditions and incorporating the necessary technical requirements into the overall project design specification.
  • Creating scope of work documents and overseeing successful execution for various subcontracted works, including but not limited to: geotech/topographic surveys, HV engineering, 30% civil engineering, gen-tie plans and profiles, foundation design, independent engineering diligence, etc.
  • Supporting the completion of site surveys and coordinating preliminary layout drawings using 3rd party drafting support.
  • Prepare conceptual design for solar projects including selection of major components, equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, etc.
  • Coordinating energy production estimates and creating models using PVSyst and other applicable tools.
  • Supporting the Development team with all needed development engineering documents.
  • Reviewing and approving EPC engineering submittals, controlling their conformance with SOW contracted schedule.
  • Providing engineering support and coordination with the Construction group during the design review of electrical facilities during the construction of projects.
  • Creating regular project engineering status reports and maintaining oversight of project-specific engineering budgets.
  • Periodically controlling quality during construction phase, verifying conformity with approved plans and company engineering and quality best practices.
  • Working with other departments to analyze alternative renewable sources to improve and complement solar PV plants including energy storage systems.
  • Contributing to department efforts of technology innovation and improvement of quality engineering best practices.
  • Operating as lead engineer during the bid preparation, procurement, analysis, and design of various studies.
  • Providing key support in the technical and regulatory areas for the development and operational assets of solar and energy storage projects.
  • Managing the engineering support required for the submittal of all interconnection applications to the RTO/ISOs and the evaluation of the interconnection studies and negotiation of interconnection agreements.
  • Traveling 10-15% during a typical year in support of: initial site surveying and constraints evaluation, ongoing construction monitoring and engineering quality control, and commissioning and testing technical support.

    Your areas of knowledge and expertise:The ideal candidate demonstrates:
    • 2+ years PV Engineering experience on solar photovoltaic utility scale, preferably with strong experience in > 50 MW projects.
    • In depth knowledge of PV systems equipment, including industry best-practices on equipment sizing, selection, and implementation.
    • Strong knowledge with all industry standard modeling software: PVSyst, AutoCAD and other applicable software, in addition to MS Excel, MS Project, and the MS Office suite.
    • Ability to support multiple projects at a given time and ability to prioritize tasks with self-driven initiative.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) licensing preferred but not required.
    • Knowledge of the National Electric Code is a plus.
