Engineer II - Metals Center of Excellence - Materials Engineering This is an exciting opportunity with the Metals Center of Excellence (MCoE) within the Advanced Technologies organization. You will be part of the Materials Engineering group in MCoE responsible for material innovation including alloy development, processing and characterization of metals and metallic alloys. Within our team, you will be part of alloy development, processing and characterization of the next generation of metallic materials for medical applications. You will also advance the fundamental understanding of mechanical and corrosion behavior of medical-grade materials - including Nitinol - under physiological relevant conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
--- Develop test methods, test fixtures, tooling design, test equipment setup and operation, and data collection with careful observation and understanding of any test deviations. --- Perform lab testing on materials, components and devices, including mechanical, fatigue, and heart valve simulation testing --- Must have a good understanding of metallic materials, including Nitinol, Stainless Steel and CoCr --- Must have experience with fracture analysis and identifying root cause for fractures --- Must have strong understanding of characterization techniques including differential scanning calorimetry, SEM/EDX, and surface characterization tools --- Operate the equipment per test protocol, collect data and write timely test reports. Ensure that the lab equipment is properly maintained and calibrated throughout the year per applicable EW policies. --- Provide accurate data and assist with decision making. Independently coordinate assignments, meet timelines and perform job with little supervision. --- Train others on test equipment and product testing. --- Draft technical documents (IQ protocols and reports) and execute protocols when applicable. --- Ability to work independently on product development tasks with minimal direction. --- Must have strong hands-on experience and excel in a laboratory environment

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or related field, minimum of 2 years of experience required, or
Master's Degree or equivalent with internship, senior projects, or thesis in Materials Science, Materials Engineering Engineering or related field including either industry or industry/education required
Additional Skills: --- Must have experience with fracture analysis and identifying root cause for fractures
--- Must have strong understanding of characterization techniques including differential scanning calorimetry, SEM/EDX, and surface characterization tools --- Good computer skills in usage of MS Office Suite including MS Project; CAD experience required.
--- Good documentation, communication (e.g., written and verbal) and interpersonal relationship skills including consultative and relationship management skills
--- Basic understanding of statistical techniques
--- Previous experience working with lab/industrial equipment required
--- Solid understanding and knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to Engineering
--- Solid problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills
--- Solid understanding of processes and equipment used in assigned work
--- Knowledge of and adherence to Edwards Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines as they relate to department clean room medical device manufacturing
--- Knowledge of applicable FDA regulations for medical device industry
--- Strict attention to detail
--- Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels
--- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
--- Must be able to work in a team environment, including the ability to manage vendors and project stakeholders
--- Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships
