The Role:. The Electromechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the creation of new product designs from commercial specifications, for documentation of product design, and communication of design information to support personnel, so that the products can be implemented into production. Ability to improve existing product designs and to develop extensions of existing products is also required. Knowledge of centrifugal and/or positive displacement pump design, electric motors, value design, plastic and metal component design, and fluid concepts is required. Duties include the creation of cad models, design calculations, mathematical models, tolerancing and stack-up analysis, drawing creation, qualification testing of the design, material specifications, component specifications, agency approvals, BOM's, concurrent engineering guidance on the sequence of assembly, release of product and component documentation, lab test procedures, conduct research and development, perform returns analysis, and determine spare parts and kits.. Perform work in research, development, design, testing, analysis, and construction of Electromechanical engineering devices, solve engineering problems, create prototypes, and validate designs. Provide technical project leadership on the assigned projects, following Xylem's stage- gate process. Modify existing product designs for use on other applications, to improve life, reliability, performance, and/or to reduce production costs. Responsible for checking and approving the complete project documentation, including drawings, lab reports, agency compliance, B.O.M.s, inspection reports and tool designs for accuracy and proper function before release to production. Technically direct the work of Drafters, Designers, and Engineering Technicians engaged in the assigned projects. Perform assistance tasks for Marketing, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality Control, and other departments as assigned. Provide engineering support to resolve product problems, manufacturing problems, reduce product and manufacturing costs. Use personal computer for engineering calculations, CAD designs, drawing (Pro-Engineer-Wildfire II- Pro-Intralink, Windchill) CAE tools (FEA, etc.) and MS Office products. Reviews product specifications to determine time frames, methods, and procedures for accomplishing project. Creates and maintains action plans. Helps development teams prepare deliverables for Gate Review meetings. Assume other activities and responsibilities as directed.. Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:. Bachelors or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electromechanical Engineer. 5+ years in related technology/research field. Must have experience with valves, pumps, electric motors, and/or other electromechanical products. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills plus creativity and subject matter expertise particularly in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, and 3-dimesional modeling. Ability to deal with other employees in a professional and tactful manner. Ability to handle multiple, sometimes conflicting, priorities and tasks. Ability to collaborate with teams and across functional and departmental boundaries. Position requires the ability to work with computers and may be required to lift up to 25 pounds.. General office environment, laboratory, manufacturing area, or research areas requiring the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time..
