Description
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Crean
College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University is
pleased to invite applications for a 12-month tenure-track
Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2023.
The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program is located
on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, California. This
campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational
environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and
practice. The campus features state of the art facilities,
including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning
center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D
projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library,
and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several
accredited graduate health science professional programs, including
Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication
Sciences and Disorders, Master of Physician Assistant Sciences, and
Doctor of Pharmacy.
The CSD department is also associated with numerous school
districts, private practices, and medical centers that provide
services to individuals with communication disorders across the
lifespan, including two clinics operated by the CSD department: the
CSD Adult Learning Lab for adults with neurological communication
disorders, and the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center of
Orange County for young children with communication disorders. The
diversity of southern California is reflected in the CSD student
cohorts, where 40% of students self-identify as members of racial
or ethnic minority communities.

Responsibilities
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in communication
sciences and disorders, neuroscience, linguistics, cognitive
psychology, or a related field. Research expertise may include, but
is not limited to, neurodiverse and neurotypical populations
intersecting with our emerging strengths in neuroscience. However,
we invite applications from candidates with other areas of
expertise.
An emerging record of excellent scholarship and clear potential for
collaborative extramural funding is expected.
Current licensure in speech-language pathology (or eligibility for
licensure in California) is desirable but not required.
The successful candidate must provide evidence of a commitment to

Successful completion of a background check is required for the
final candidate. This position is subject to final budget approval.
The salary range for this Assistant Professor position is
$105,000-$115,000.
A start date of Fall 2023 is preferred but negotiable. Salary and
start-up packages are competitive and will be based on experience,
rank, and funding status. Teaching load is consistent with R2
status accommodate 50% time devoted to research activities.
