Supervises: Accounting staff Salary: Commensurate with
experience
Help us build a more perfect world. The Jewish Federation of Orange
County is seeking a seasoned professional to support organizational
growth by producing accurate and timely internal financial
statements, developing and mentoring staff, and performing ad hoc
analyses to be used in making operational business decisions. This
position will manage all accounting operations, provide tactical
expertise, and support leadership in achieving Federation's
purpose, amplifying Jewish life in Orange County, in Israel, and

forward the mission of Federation by ensuring effective financial
management. Once here you will:

- Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational
functions
- Build an effective financial management team that includes
hiring, mentoring and retaining skilled accounting staff as well as
developing the financial capacities of department staff and
lay-leadership
- Coordinate and prepare accurate and timely internal and
external financial statements
- Supervise all accounts payable and accounts receivables
operations
- Manage all aspects related to the annual audit and tax
reporting
- Manage the budget process
- Monitor and report on cash position and prepare timely cash
forecasts
- Manage and monitor compliance with all internal control
policies and procedures including monthly close process
- Approve journal entries and bank reconciliations and work with
the staff to ensure that all monthly activity is recorded and
reconciled (where needed) monthly
- Oversee reconciliation of all investment statements with the
endowment and other restricted funds
- Review contributed revenue and ensure data is entered in G/L
consistent with internal practices
- Provide leadership team and Finance committee with information
vital to decision-making processes
- Provide staff support for Audit and Finance Committees
- Evaluate accounting and internal control systems, making
recommendations to improve processes
- Ensure that Federation has exception-free audits and that we
remain current on all State and Federal laws and regulations that
pertain to the business of Federation
- Work collaboratively with the CEO to develop and implement new
policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working
relationship with Federation staff, lay leadership, and community
partners
- Other responsibilities as required of the position Your
experience and mindset:
- Chances are you're a CPA or have the equivalent level of
experience in nonprofit accounting, master's degree preferred
- You have a track record of success demonstrated in the work
you've done over the last 5-8 years
- Your work history is anchored by strong knowledge in fund
accounting, analyzing financial data, preparing financial reports,
and generating financial projections
- You are not just a numbers person, but also thrive as part of a
team, have excellent interpersonal skills, are an effective
communicator verbally and in writing, and can pivot between
operating as part of a team and with minimal supervision
- You like to teach or share what you know about accounting,
making you a good mentor to staff and adept at strengthening the
knowledge and practices of non-accounting staff and lay
leadership
- Along your career you've developed a high-level of proficiency
using Microsoft Office systems, and accounting and database
software to generate analysis of financial and operational
information (Financial Edge software a plus)
- You are laser focused and work at a fast pace when it comes to
solving problems and can achieve multiple tasks at once in order to
effectively meet deadlines
- You wake up thinking about 5-year projections and what we can
do to strengthen our financial outlook for the future
- You've been effective in building small teams and maintaining a
network of professional relationships
- You believe in the mission and vision of Jewish Federation to
amplify and strengthen community and desire to participate in our
